In Cuba, two economies coexist with their respective fractional currency systems: The Cuban peso and the convertible peso (CUC). As for the first of the systems, it can only be used by the inhabitants of Cuba. On the contrary, the tourist and those Cubans who handle foreign exchange use the CUC as a form of payment.
The CUC notes currently in circulation are 1, 3, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100, although you can always pay in dollars or euros at almost every tourist spot in the country.
All credit cards are generally accepted except American Express, however, we recommend to pay in cash because some places don´t have POS.
Cuban immigration authorities require a tourist visa (35€) for stays shorter than 30 days. For further information, visit the website of the Spanish Embassy in Havana or the Cuban Embassy in Spain.
Although Cuba is a country with a good level of hygiene, it is always recommendable to take precautions with food and especially with water.
Therefore, we recommend always to drink bottled water and food that has been boiled or fried.
